Direct thermal fading

Direct thermal is intended primarily for shorter-life output. Keep printed labels away from prolonged sunlight, high heat, PVC films, oils and solvents. A top-coated or synthetic direct thermal product may improve resistance, but only its datasheet and testing can define performance.

Thermal transfer fading

Transfer durability depends on ribbon chemistry bonding to the label topcoat. Wax on a synthetic label may smear; resin on an incompatible paper may transfer poorly. Start with the supplier's compatibility recommendation, then adjust speed and darkness within safe limits.
